Preparing For Your Botox Injection Appointment

How much preparation do you think is needed before your Botox injection appointment? Most people – those who have never done it before, at least – will probably think that you don’t need to do anything more than just turn up at the right place at the right time and enjoy the results of your Botox treatment.

However, although you can certainly do this, there are some useful things you can do to prepare for the treatment you’re about to have, which will help you and the expert giving you the injection. Read on to find out what they are so you can ensure you get the most out of your specialist Botox treatment.

Before Botox

Once you have made an appointment with Dermani Medical Spa for your Botox treatment, it’s a good idea to collate a list of any medication you are on. This should include prescription and over-the-counter medication as well as any herbal treatments you might be taking. You should also think about the different medical conditions you might be suffering from – although these (and your medication) will usually not impact your ability to have a Botox treatment, it’s best to mention them to be sure. If you find that you are pregnant before your appointment, you should cancel it since Botox is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women.

When you go to your appointment, you should have a clean, makeup-free face, and you should not have had any alcohol for two days before you are due to have your treatment. The reason for this is that bruising can occur due to alcohol. Other things to avoid preventing excessive bruising include:

  • Ginger
  • Garlic
  • Fish oil
  • Omega-3 fatty acid
  • Vitamin E
  • Ginseng
  • Ginkgo biloba

After Botox

It’s also a good idea to be aware that you need to follow some guidelines after you have had your Botox treatment as well. If you do this, the results will be much better. For example, you should not rub your face for 24 hours after you have received Botox treatments; this means you can’t book a facial or a massage during this time either. Neither should you work out on the same day as your treatment. It’s good to know this in advance so you can arrange your schedule accordingly and not book too many things at one time.

If you are considering having any kind of laser treatment on your face as well, this should not happen until at least three weeks after your Botox treatment. The same is true of microblading your eyebrows.

You might find that the area where you were injected is a little sore. If so, you can use an ice pack to reduce the pain and swelling; use it for ten minutes in every hour until the pain has subsided.

It’s also important to remember that the results of a Botox injection are not instantaneous; it can take as much as five days (although it is usually more like three) to see the results. If nothing has changed by two weeks after the injection, you should contact your clinic for a follow-up.
